The 100th building under the LEED for Existing Buildings rating system was certified by the CB Richard Ellis Group Inc. This achievement stems from a commitment made in 2007 when CBRE pledged to have 100 buildings LEED-certified, which is a way for businesses to minimize environmental impact by operating more efficiently. Ranging from sizes of 100,000 square feet to 1.8 million square feet, the buildings certified are located throughout the United States including in major metropolitan cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Dallas and Seattle. When the real estate firm made its commitment to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program in 200 there were fewer than 60 buildings in the U.S. with the LEED for Existing Buildings designation,” said Dave Pogue, CBRE’s National Director of Sustainability. “The key to our success has been both partnering effectively with our clients and deploying a strong internal certification team with great technical expertise and a genuine passion for enhancing sustainable practices in the buildings we manage,” Pogue said. More than 1,000 buildings worldwide have received LEED for Existing Buildings certifications compared to less than 200 at the end of 2008. The buildings were certified by CBRE’s Sustainability Programs Group.
