Vet Clinic Snags TV Spotlight

A Montrose veterinary clinic is featured in a new commercial for the Office@ Hand service from AT&T. Kym Mitchell closed her clinic for a day to accommodate the filming that required both human and animal extras portraying her patients. Two dogs seen in the commercial, a Labrador and a Pekingese are actual patients of Mitchell’s. The spot required Mitchell to examine a pet pig, seen in an opening shot being walked by its owner to the clinic’s doors. Having a pig for a co-star was the highlight of the shoot, Mitchell said. “It was quite entertaining working with the pig,” Mitchell said. Mitchell opened the Montrose Pet Hospital in April after working at another clinic for 18 years. She became one of the first small businesses to sign up for the Office@Hand service that acts as the hospital’s after hours answering service, sends phone message via email and accepts e-Faxes. X-rays and lab work are sent online with the phone company’s Internet service, Mitchell said. The 30-second spot promoting the service is airing on ABC, CBS, Bravo, USA Network, TNT, and other cable channels. The commercial has boosted the presence of Mitchell’s practice. Former patients at her previous clinic have learned of her new hospital, and even relatives in other states have seen the spot, Mitchell said. “People are definitely seeing it across the U.S.,” Mitchell said. “Every day someone comes in and mentions it.” —Mark R.
