Mall Welcomes Sports Authority

National sporting goods retailer, Sport’s Authority will be joining the lineup of tenants at Northridge Fashion Center next year. The 53,936-square foot store will fill the space previously occupied by Borders, which closed earlier this year after the company filed for bankruptcy. Sport’s Authority, known for its fitness products, equipment and apparel, currently has six locations in the Valley. The retail chain will join the mall’s roster of over 170 tenants that include Old Navy, Forever 21, Macy’s and Sephora. Daniyel Gordon, senior general manager for Northridge Fashion Center, said the retailer will be a great addition to the center, which has welcomed several new tenants over the past month including Best Buy Mobile, Fanzz and National University’s Online Information Center. Despite the mall’s wide variety of retailers, the addition of Sports Authority will meet a demand that has yet to be served, Gordon said. “Right now we don’t have a lot of retailers with a vast selection of sports equipment,” she said. Overall, tenant feedback regarding the new Sport’s Authority has been positive. “Tenants are excited,” Gordon said. “They think it will help business.” — Angela Melero
