Disney Acquires Parenting Website Babble Media

The online division of The Walt Disney Co. has added more than 200 bloggers of family and parenting issues following its acquisition of Babble Media Inc. Terms of the detail between Burbank-based Disney and Babble Media, headquartered in New York, were not disclosed. The combination of Disney and Babble will harness the power of storytelling to inform, entertain and empower parents, said Brooke Chaffin, senior vice president of Moms and Family, Disney Interactive Media Group. “With more than 3.9 million mom blogs in the U.S. alone, Disney Interactive recognizes and values the important and powerful role moms have taken on in new media,” Chaffin said in a prepared statement. Babble will remain in New York and its co-founders, Rufus Griscom and Alisa Volkman, will join the Disney Interactive Media Group. Giscom and Volkman started Babble in 2006 and have grown the company into respected website for a new generation of connected parents. Time magazine named Babble one of the best websites of 2010, and by Forbes as one of the Top 100 Websites for Women.
