Galpin Aston Martin will display a limited edition coupe during the first weekend of the L.A. Auto Show.
The appearance at the show of the pre-production version of the One-77 two-door sports car is its first public display on the West Coast. The car will be at the Galpin Aston Martin display from Nov. 18 to 20 during the show at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The British carmaker only produced 77 of the “supercar” and there are only a small number still available for purchase. Galpin Aston Martin is currently working with nine interested buyers, said Stuart McIntosh, sales manager at the Van Nuys dealership.
“There really is nothing else out there as visually appealing,” McIntosh said.
The scarcity, price and performance of the One-77 determine its designation as a “supercar.” The vehicle sells for about $1.7 million and has V12 engine with 750 horsepower engine capable of speeds up to 230 miles per hour, McIntosh said.
The One-77 was being tested on the East Coast when the opportunity arose for the car to come west for the auto show. Galpin is one of the larger dealerships in North America and has been the only Aston Martin presence at the auto show for three years in a row.
“With Aston Martin paying for the transportation you don’t say no to that,” McIntosh said.
Also on display during the show, which runs through Nov. 27, are 19 custom designed cars from Galpin Auto Sports.
Among the cars making the debuts at the show are a red wide body Mustang to be auctioned in January to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital; the Explorer XXVI with 26 speakers and an audio system controlled by an iPad; and the Ford Focus 420, a high performance version of the compact car.
Galpin Auto Sports is a fixture at the L.A. Auto show and its attendance there becomes a showcase for its creativity and craftsmanship, said Ted Mengiste, who heads up the custom car division.
“Being located in Van Nuys it is a good stage to be ring out certain cars for everyone in the vicinity to see,” Mengiste said.
