Tech Company Releases Music Making Platform

Music Mastermind has combined the fun of a video game with professional music making tools to create Zya, a PC-based app platform. The Calabasas company released its “First Look” edition of Zya in early March for all model PC users. The platform allows users to create their own music through interaction with colorful characters and portions of hit songs that are available across popular genres. “You have a great sounding music whether in a snippet or a full song,” said Music Mastermind CEO Matt Serletic, who founded the company in 2008 with business partner Bo Bazylevsky. Zya is Music Mastermind’s first offering. It was initially made available on an exclusive basis for Hewlett Packard desktop, netbook and laptop product lines. Users receive five characters (four instrumentalists and a producer) for free by downloading the app from the company’s website or through the Intel app shop. They can purchase additional character and song packs for creating their own tunes. Song Pack titles include Maddona’s “Like a Virgin,” to Lady Gaga’s breakthrough hits “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.” Serletic says Zya gives users a new way to interact with music. It’s fun but has serious technology behind it, and was designed so it would be easy for anyone to pick up, he said. — Mark R. Madler
