Journal Appoints Editor

Darmiento Laurence Darmiento has been named editor of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. An award-winning editor and reporter with 24 years of professional experience, he comes to the paper from the Los Angeles Business Journal, a sister publication where he was managing editor. “I am deeply appreciative of this opportunity to run the pre-eminent voice of business in the San Fernando Valley region,” Darmiento said. The Burbank resident replaces Jaclyn Giovis, who spent 18 months in the post before taking a job in the Valley business community. During her tenure, the paper won several awards, including being named a top small business tabloid by the Alliance of Area Business Publications, an industry trade group. Associate Publisher Josh Schimmels said he was certain that the new editor would provide the leadership to ensure that the paper continues to thrive in the rapidly changing media world. “We are extremely pleased to have Laurence join us as editor. He is a seasoned professional with invaluable experience managing a Business Journal news team,” Schimmels said. “Being a longtime Valley resident, Laurence understands the needs of the Valley and will continue to provide our business community with award winning news. His vision and journalistic integrity will push the publication to new heights.” Darmiento was managing editor at the L.A. paper since January 2006. During his tenure, the paper was recognized as the nation’s top regional busines tabloid by the Alliance and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, among other honors it received.
