Glendale Startup Sold to Azusa Firm

ClimateMinder, a Glendale startup that has developed a wireless crop-monitoring system, was sold to Azusa irrigation company Rainbird Corp. for an undisclosed sum. The startup has been operating out of an incubator sponsored by VoiVoda Ventures, a venture capital group in Glendale that focuses on early stage business-to-business technology companies. VoiVoda announced the deal on its website Monday. Founded in 2005, ClimateMinder’s clients included Monsanto Co., Driscoll’s Strawberry Associates Inc. and Bolthouse Farms. The mobile platform gathers crop data and sends it to growers’ phones, computers and control systems, which in turn allows growers to remotely control crop conditions. The company has technology partnerships with Intel Corp. and Ericcson Inc. Rainbird is a leading irrigation company that sells systems in some 130 countries. It has installed systems for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Pebble Beach golf club and the Philadelphia Phillies’ stadium.
