Henry Mayo’s Stroke Program Receives Award
Friday, February 17, 2012Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Get With TheGuidelines–Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award.”
The Valencia hospital said the award recognizes its commitment to implementing a higher standard of stroke care; it ensures that stroke patients receive nationally accepted standards of care.
Henry Mayo developed a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to its emergency department. This includes ready access to brain imaging scans and neurologists and using clot-busting medications when appropriate.
Some 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
The Valencia hospital serves the Santa Clarita Valley with 227 beds. It plans to open a new $6 million neonatal ICU next month.
