Henry Mayo’s Stroke Program Receives Award

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Get With TheGuidelines–Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award.” The Valencia hospital said the award recognizes its commitment to implementing a higher standard of stroke care; it ensures that stroke patients receive nationally accepted standards of care. Henry Mayo developed a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to its emergency department. This includes ready access to brain imaging scans and neurologists and using clot-busting medications when appropriate. Some 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. The Valencia hospital serves the Santa Clarita Valley with 227 beds. It plans to open a new $6 million neonatal ICU next month. Judy Temes
