Valley Mall Snags New Makeover

The Northridge Fashion Center is getting a facelift this year. The shopping center, which is managed and owned by General Growth Properties, recently announced plans to expand and modernize the interior and exterior of the property. Changes will include new flooring in which the existing red, grey and black tiles will be replaced with porcelain tiles. Indoor renovations have already begun. The food court will receive new amenities such as dining counters and banquette seating as well as a re-designed ceiling. The exterior food court also will be expanded and will include a covered outdoor dining terrace. Other renovations will be made to the shopping center’s existing lighting, mall entrances and the Macy’s court, which serves as a primary area for events and gatherings. The renovation work is being done in the evenings so it doesn’t impact shoppers’ experience at the mall, said Daniyel Gordon, general manager of the shopping center. Gordon declined to disclose the amount invested into the renovations. The project is slated to be completed in October, Gordon said. Although it’s not tenant-driven, the company is confident “it will help us continue to attract new retailers.” The shopping center, which attracts more than 18 million visitors each year, is home to more than 170 retailers including Macy’s, H&M and Forever 21. Last year, mall management announced a Sports Authority would be added to its lists of tenants and would be setting up shop in the former Border’s space. — Angela Melero
