Solar-Powered Car Heading to Camarillo

The U.S. leg of an around the world trip by a solar-powered car will include a stop at SolarWorld in Camarillo, a sponsor of the car. The SolarWorld Gran Turismo, a two-seat sports car, will appear at the SolarWorld facility on Feb. 6. The vehicle’s drivers and crew will meet the public to showcase the vehicle. SolarWorld and Bochum University of Applied Sciences in Germany collaborated on the Gran Turismo. The car began its global trek in October in Australia and New Zealand before being shipped to the U.S. The American leg will include stops in Arizona, Texas and Florida before traveling through Europe, Africa and Asia and returning to Australia. “The SolarWorld GT is an ambassador for sustainable personal transportation, reminding us that the power to shift our driving habits away from dirty fossil fuels is within our grasp,” SolarWorld Americas President Kevin Kilkelly said, in a prepared statement. “Clean energy from the sun is there for the taking – without depleting the Earth’s riches.” Mark R. Madler
