Valley Moms Look To ‘Ditch The Itch’

Remember, when you were a kid and the tags and seams on clothes itched uncontrollably? Well, two Valley moms are looking to put an end to that for children — as well as adults. Michelle Isrow and Michele Naftal of Calabasas-based Mimi Lounge LLC began shipping their Undercover Tape brand to retailers this spring. An official launch party for the “comfort tape” was held last month at Meant 2 Be, a Tarzana children’s boutique. It appears to be sticking. Undercover Tape, which is placed over any offending surface such as a tag, label or seam, was featured on Good Day L.A. this month. And the tape designed to “ditch the itch” is now available in 30 stores in seven states, Isrow said. Both Isrow, 41, of Calabasas and Naftal, 46, of West Hills said the idea came about after their children complained — sometimes loudly — about discomfort from shirts, ballet tights and more. “Michele and I, we both have kids and they have always had the issue of itchiness with tags and labels and seams,” Isrow said. “So we decided we wanted to come up with a solution.” They settled on hypoallergenic, latex-free self-adhesive fabric tape. The tape is manufactured in Chatsworth by MBK Tape Solutions. Debra Rosenstock, manager of Soto Boutique in Woodland Hills, said the product so far has been a hit, forcing Soto to reorder the product for boutiques in Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks and Westlake Village The tape comes in several styles and a package of 15 strips costs $12, she said. Although purchases for kids account for the majority of sales, Naftal said the duo is currently working on different styles that would cater more to adults. “I use it,” she said. “I have a couple of items that bother me.”
