Applebee’s Keeps Partnership With Weight Watchers

Applebee’s and Weight Watchers are celebrating their continued partnership in bringing healthy meals to consumers. After eight years of producing Weight Watchers-endorsed menu items, the casual dining restaurant chain, owned by Glendale-based DineEquity, Inc., announced it has extended its agreement with the weight loss organization. To celebrate, Applebee’s introduced three new entrées to its menu — Creamy Parmesan Chicken, Grilled Jalapeno-Lime Shrimp and Cabernet Mushroom Sirloin. Nancy Mays, spokeswoman for Applebee’s, said the company is excited to be the only restaurant with a partnership with Weight Watchers. “It allows us offer to casual dining guests something different,” Mays said. According to the National Restaurant Association, nearly 75 percent of consumers say they are trying to eat healthier now at restaurants than they did two years ago. Mays said even those who are not Weight Watchers “followers” are fans of the healthier menu items. In a prepared statement, Dave Burwick, president, North America of Weight Watchers International, said, “These flavorful and satisfying items are a great way for Weight Watchers members, or anyone seeking better-for-you options, to easily make healthier decisions while dining out.” — Angela Melero
