Entertainment Veterans Look to Share Digital Expertise

A group of entertainment industry veterans has launched a production company to cater to the growing legion of content producers. Founders Donny Misraje, Kathee Schneider Misraje and Sandy Ganz launched Burbank-based Media-O-Matic in December and are rehabbing an old Burbank industrial building into a state-of-the-art podcasting and digital production studio. The studio, which will include a green screen, set, edit bay, podcast studio and more, will be available for rent and is slated to open April 1. The trio has a track record in the entertainment industry and in the online realm. Misraje has worked on numerous shows including “The Amazing Race” and “The Tonight Show”. His wife, Kathee, has won a Grammy and a MTV Music Video Award for her production work. While Ganz was vice president of search and inventory for the online shopping site Shopzilla. All three played integral roles on Adam Carolla’s podcast network, ACE Broadcasting, where Ganz served as chief technical officer, Misraje was co-founder and executive producer and Schneider Misraje was executive vice president and producer. As of late last year, the trio no longer works at ACE, opening up the opportunity to launch Media-O-Matic. “There were people asking us for help all the time in this new digital format, and so we decided to do this work for hire,” Donny Misraje said. At the Media-O-Matic studio amateur and professional clients will be able to record, edit and broadcast their podcasts and videos by paying a fee to rent the space, equipment and the Media-O-Matic team’s expertise, as needed. Prices vary depending on the range of products and services required and duration of use. “The world can not get enough visual and audio content — it clamors for it,” Donny Misraje said. “We just cannot produce it fast enough.” Despite the growth of online content, it’s unclear how much demand exists among amateurs, businesspeople and others who will pay to spruce up their podcasts and videos. Media-O-Matic founders said they’ve had interest in the services they offer, even though they haven’t gone on an advertising blitz or completed their studio. And advertisers are finally learning to cull revenue from online videos and other digital content, Donny Misraje said. So far, the company has produced a video for a pre-Grammy event, videos for the tool company Craftsman and is underway on a pitch pilot for Comedy Central. Studio City-based Dietician Kim Shapira turned to Media-O-Matic to shoot, edit and produce several videos to help promote her business. Shapira said she plans to put the videos on her website, her Facebook page and likely on YouTube. “There is no denying it — everyone has a phone in their hand or a computer to play it,” she said. Online videos are a “really great way for small businesses become bigger,” she added.
