Cal Lutheran Honored for Service Projects

California Lutheran University has been honored for its service learning and civic engagement by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the U.S. Department of Education. For the second year in a row the university was named to the 2012 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Criteria for the honor included creativity in service projects, integration of service learning into curriculum and measurable impact on the community. For the 2010-2011 year, about 2,400 students completed 44,000 community service hours. The university’s service projects have included a Global Studies Program which identified challenges facing immigrant communities and researched solutions and a program through the Community Counseling and Parent Child Study Center in which 75 psychology students counseled some 200 low-income residents.
