Sounding Off On Rock’s Biggest Stars

Ken Scott knows all about hits. After all, the native Brit worked as a sound engineer and producer in the 1960s and 1970s for the Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Elton John. Now, Scott, a resident of the Ventura County community of Oak Park, has his very own hit. He wrote down his best stories in a book titled, “Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust: Off-the-Record with The Beatles, Bowie, Elton & so much more.” The book, co-written with fellow sound engineer Bobby Owsinski and published by Alfred Music Publishing of Van Nuys, recently reached the No. 2 spot on Amazon.com’s pop culture and music category. Scott, 65, has been promoting the tome, but already has had enough. “I want to get back into the studio. That’s my love, my passion,” said Scott, interviewed by telephone from Austin, Texas. Scott got his start in the industry at 16 after writing to people in the music industry seeking work. Nine days later, he was in the “tape room” at Abbey Road Studios in London, where The Beatles recorded multiple hits, from their debut album to the eponymous “Abbey Road.” For what it’s worth, Scott has a firm opinion on whether Yoko Ono broke up the The Beatles. “Yoko didn’t break up the band. They were finding their own roads as individuals,” he said. – Bailey Brewer
