A Graduate of the Valley’s Business School

It was a thrilling ride. I’m not commenting on the latest attraction at Magic Mountain. This is my final column for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. It’s time to embrace the next professional adventure and to pass the Editor torch to another. I’ve had the pleasure of leading the newspaper through some wonderful changes in print and online — improvements to better serve you, the readers. Printing on coated paper stock this summer was one highlight, as it immediately brought a fresh and sophisticated look to our product. We also now are providing a daily e-newsletter, keeping you informed of breaking news. But the most exhilarating part of being Editor has been learning about this Valley — the diverse range of businesses that exist and thrive here and the people who make these companies tick. I reveled in sharing their stories. Admittedly, I was not a Valley girl when I took the Editor’s chair in May 2011. I decided to join the club. It was a great decision, among the best. The Valley offers a close-knit community of business leaders who truly care about the health and vitality of this region and their part in its future. The San Fernando Valley Business Journal is an important part of that community and its story, as it will be for many years to come. For more than 16 years, the newspaper has produced an award-winning editorial product with one goal in mind: to give you smart, engaging content about Valley companies and business people from the front page to the last. I made that my goal and look forward to seeing the newspaper’s tradition of excellence continue. Before I sign off, I would like thank my talented, hard-working staff of scribes and my colleagues on the management team. I am proud to have worked with each of you and to have represented our editorial team. Keep up the awesome work! Thanks also to our advertisers. Without you, the Business Journal wouldn’t exist. Last, but certainly not least, thank you, the readers. Representing the San Fernando Valley’s business community is a great honor and responsibility. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to make an impact in this community and to serve it through our news coverage. Note: Giovis is pleased to remain in the Valley business community in her new role. She will start her new job this month as Director of Communications for Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.
