Van Nuys Manufacturer of Miniature Parts Signs Deal

Microfabrica Inc. will provide its proprietary manufacturing process to Johnson Matthey Medical Components, of West Chester, Pa. after the two companies signed a sales and marketing partnership. The privately held Van Nuys company makes tiny high-precision parts for the medical-device, aerospace and semiconductor test industries. As part of the deal, Microfabrica will receive access to Johnson Matthey Medical’s customer base, for which it can fabricate high-precision metal parts less than a millimeter in size. Microfabrica’s technology, which includes a process by which parts are made by stacking thin metal layers, complements Johnson Matthey Medical’s capabilities, said Microfabrica Chief Executive Eric Miller. “Their domain expertise in medical device component manufacturing, combined with our ability to produce sub-millimeter, high precision components and assemblies offers customers a unique and unrivaled ability to execute design challenges, regardless of scale,” said Miller, in a prepared statement. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
