AeroVironment Inc. received $13.8 million in funding to continue fulfilling a contract to produce its Raven unmanned aircraft for the U.S. Army. AeroVironment is expected to deliver the aircraft, spares, and payloads of a daylight digital camera and infrared thermal-imaging camera by the end of July. The Monrovia company develops, manufactures and tests its unmanned aircraft at a facility in Simi Valley. “The proven Raven small unmanned aircraft system continues to serve our soldiers reliably, wherever and whenever they require immediate airborne situational awareness,” said Roy Minson, AeroVironment senior vice president and general manager, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, in a prepared statement. This third order from the Army brings to $46.1 million the amount that AeroVironment has received on a Raven contract capped at $65.5 million.
