Whole Foods Eyes Burbank

A community meeting in Burbank Monday will discuss allowing Whole Foods Market Inc. to open a supermarket in the city’s Media District. The Austin, Texas company hopes to open a 43,000-square-foot location at the bottom of a proposed 241-unit multifamily development called “Talaria at Burbank,” which is being developed by Cusumano Real Estate Group of Burbank. The mixed-use development is proposed to be built at 3401 W. Olive Ave., about a quarter of a mile from NBC and Warner Bros. Studios. The four-story development would feature more than 750 parking spaces in addition to a full gym, pool, business center and dry-cleaning service. Whole Foods attempted to open an outlet in the city about six years ago, but was turned down by the City Council. That proposal was for a store in the Rancho area of Burbank, which the city thought could be dangerous to the nearby equestrian centers. On Tuesday, the City Council will decide whether to approve an environmental and traffic study on the site.
