Simi Valley Chamber CEO Retiring

After 16 years of service, Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Leigh Nixon announced on Thursday that she is stepping down this spring. Nixon joined the chamber in April 1999 after serving on the Santa Clarita, Palmdale and Temecula chambers of commerce. She has served on the board of the Simi Valley hospital since 2000 and also was the president of the Simi Valley Education foundation for nearly 15 years. “I’m excited to be retired with my husband after 30 years, but on the other hand this is really sad because this has been my home,” said Nixon, 62. “(But) you have to go sometime; it’s inevitable.” Chamber Director Dan Jaeger attributed much of the Chamber’s success to Nixon’s involvement. “We have been blessed to have had Leigh serve us and how fortunate we are to have the Simi Valley Chamber positioned as well as we are as a result,” he said in a prepared statement. “Now we have to think about who can replace the energy and skills Leigh brought to us over the past 16 years.” Nixon gave the board five months’ notice but has not determined an exact date she will step down. She plans to move to Sumerlin, Nev. with her husband, who also is retiring this spring. She said that she’s looking forward to spending more time with her children and grandchildren.
