Dodgers Partly Liable for Stow Beating

A Los Angeles jury ruled on Wednesday that the Dodgers organization was negligent in the 2011 beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow and will need to pay Stow’s family millions of dollars in damages. The jury said his attackers and the Dodgers were liable for Stow’s injuries, which include permanent brain damage. The jury also found former team owner Frank McCourt was not personally liable. The team will pay a quarter of the roughly $18 million that was awarded to Stow in the civil case. The remainder will be paid by the two men who pleaded guilty to the attack, Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood. Sanchez and Norwood were sentenced in February to eight years and four years in prison, respectively. The suit, filed by Stow’s family, alleged that the Dodgers and McCourt had not provided adequate security at the game and sought damages of about $38 million for past and future medical bills.
