IPC The Hospitalist Co. Inc. announced Thursday it has acquired a New York doctors group specializing in psychological medicine. The North Hollywood company, which provides doctors to hospitals and nursing homes, said it has acquired RG Psychological Services in Lynbrook. RG’s practice covers more than 80 nursing homes and rehab centers in the New York City and Albany markets. IPC President R. Jeffrey Taylor said the company sees a synergy in providing internal medicine, psychiatry and psychological counseling services. “As IPC continues its expansion in post-acute facility-based care, we see an opportunity to create a closer coordination of internal medicine and behavioral health services,” he said in a statement. “The acquisition of RG gives us the opportunity to continue to work on this type of coordination in New York, where we already have a presence.” The RG transaction will bring about 55,000 patient visits annually to IPC. Shares closed up $1.06, or nearly 3 percent, to $42.39 on the Nasdaq.
