Universal Shakes Up Home Entertainment Division

Universal Pictures is setting up separate operating companies for home-entertainment distribution in the U.S. and Canada, according to media reports on Friday. The new organization of the division comes as a new global headquarters is established in the Los Angeles area, according to a story at online entertainment industry news site The Wrap. The changes are being made by Eddie Cunningham, who was appointed president of the worldwide home-entertainment business in February to give it greater global focus and meet strategic goals. Cunningham is establishing a separating operating company to service the United States, Universal’s largest revenue-generating home-entertainment territory, and an operating company to service Canada, the fourth-largest market, according to The Wrap story. John Morici, the former chief operating office and chief financial officer for Universal Studios Home Entertainment, has been named as executive vice president and regional managing director of the U.S. and Canadian companies, The Wrap said. The announcement followed by two days news that NBCU Cable Entertainment formed a lifestyle network group combining four of its cable TV channels.
