Clear Channel Changes Name to iHeartMedia

Clear Channel Communications Inc. announced on Tuesday it has changed its name to iHeartMedia Inc. to better reflect its multi-platform approach. The San Antonio, Texas radio company operates eight music and talk stations clustered in Burbank that broadcast to Southern California. In total, iHeartMedia has 859 stations in more than 150 markets in addition to digital only stations. The new company name borrows from iHeartRadio, an online radio platform started by Clear Channel in 2008 that aggregates content from hundreds of stations across the country. The digital division also operates the live performance venue iHeartRadio Theatre at Burbank Studios. “iHeartMedia reflects our commitment to being the media company that provides the most entertainment to the most engaged audiences wherever they go, with more content and more events in more places on more devices,” Chief Executive Bob Pittman said in a prepared statement. iHeartMedia stations in Burbank include top-rated KIIS-FM (102.7), KBIG-FM (104.3), and talk station KFI-AM (640).
