$200 Million Palmdale Senior Community Proposed

Thomas Partners Properties announced on Wednesday plans to build a 420,000-square-foot senior care “wellness” community in Palmdale for more than $200 million. The Oasis in LA County will span 17.5 acres and will provide a continuum of care, which typically allows seniors to a facility while independent and remain as they progressively need more assistance and, ultimately, skilled nursing. The development would be adjacent to the Palmdale Regional Medical Center and also includes hotels, restaurants and shops with a focus on wellness and healthy living, such as yoga classes and a farmers market. Thomas, a downtown L.A. development firm, said it has spoken with the Palmdale hospital and will work with it and the city to develop the project. The hospital is owned by Universal Health Services Inc. in King of Prussia, Pa. “This is the future of health care in America,” President John Thomas said in a statement. “In light of shrinking margins, the Accountable Care Act, aging baby boomers and newly insureds, we must change how health care is delivered, putting the patient first. With the Oasis we plan to offer the most cutting-edge healthcare technologies.” Groundbreaking on the project is expected in June 2016.
