Valley’s First Dunkin’ Donuts to Open in Encino

An Encino shopping center will host the San Fernando Valley’s first Dunkin’ Donuts outlet, the brokerage on the deal announced Thursday. The store will operate in a 2,000-square-foot space at 4920 Balboa Blvd., a center anchored by Smart & Final and across from a recently opened Equinox fitness facility, said illi Commercial Real Estate in Encino. The franchise is being developed by Aharon Aminpour, who has a deal with the Canton, Mass. food chain to open 10 stores in the Valley. “The morning traffic is astronomical at the intersection of Ventura and Balboa, which is hard to come by,” said illi President Todd Nathanson. “Plus we have a brand new Equinox across the street and certain members are donut eaters.” Dunkin’ Donuts franchises typically cost between $500,000 and $1.2 million, depending on whether it includes a full drive-through or is just a stand-alone setup. The chain, which dominates the East Coast doughnut market and operates more than 11,000 locations worldwide, announced plans last year to open 150 U.S. stores over the next few years, many of which will be on the West Coast. Currently there are three Dunkin’ Donut shops in Southern California, one in Santa Monica, Downey and Whittier, according to the chain’s website. “There’s a lot of demand and requests for Dunkin Donuts in the San Fernando Valley, being that it’s the most heavily populated area in Southern California,” said Aminpour. “We’re anticipating a huge opening in Encino and we want to deliver a fine product with fine people.” Aminpour is also looking to open Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Woodland Hills, West Hills, Northridge, Sylmar, Chatsworth and Van Nuys.
