High Speed Rail Authority Holding Community Meetings

The California High Speed Rail Authority has scheduled nine public meetings to give an update on the Palmdale to Burbank section of the project. The meetings start this Saturday, May 16, and go through June 6 in locations in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys. Presentations will be given on the alignment alternatives between proposed stations in Palmdale and Burbank. These alignments will be included in a draft supplemental alternatives analysis report to be given to the authority’s board of directors in June. One alignment corridor roughly follows the 14 Freeway out of Palmdale to existing railroad tracks that continue on to Burbank. This alignment would include underground and elevated sections of track. The second alignment corridor would include burrowing tracks under the San Gabriel Mountains and the Angeles National Forest before hooking in with the existing tracks near Burbank. The ambitious high-speed rail project is projected to cost about $68 billion and would connect Los Angeles and San Francisco by 2029. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in January for the first 29-mile segment between Fresno and Madera. The meetings are: Saturday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Maclay Middle School, 12540 Pierce Ave., Pacoima. Monday, May 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Buena Vista Branch Library, 300 N.
