Kythera Lays Off 117 Workers

Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Inc. is permanently laying off 117 of its employees. Though current numbers were not available, as of June 30 the Westlake Village drug developer had 212 full-time employees, according to SEC filings. The Westlake Village drug developer was acquired by Dublin-based pharmaceutical company Allergan plc Oct. 1 in an all-cash deal valued at roughly $2.1 billion. Allergan is in the midst of a series of layoffs to increase profit margins, and over the past year, has cut over 1,000 jobs at its offices in Irvine as well as nearly 200 jobs in Goleta and Carlsbad, according to a California state filing. The layoffs at Kythera will become effective Nov. 30
