Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios in Glendale is looking for a new distribution deal as its current arrangement with the Walt Disney Co. is set to expire next year, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The magazine, citing unnamed sources, reports that Spielberg’s film company has been in talks about partnering next with Universal Pictures, for which the Hollywood icon executive produced summer blockbuster “Jurassic World.” The deal with Burbank-based Disney began in 2009 and expires in August 2016 with the last two DreamWorks films due to be distributed under that agreement being October’s Cold War thriller “Bridge of Spies” and next July’s children’s film “The BFG,” based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name. Since embarking on the DreamWorks deal, Disney has acquired Lucasfilm and Marvel Entertainment and has focused more on youth-appeal blockbusters that can be tied to merchandise and theme park attractions. DreamWorks did not immediately respond to a request for comment on its plans.
