VEDC’s Barragan Appointed to Fed Advisory Council

Valley Economic Development Center Chief Executive Roberto Barragan has been appointed to serve on the Community Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board. Barragan is one of 15 members of the newly created council that will provide advice and recommendations to the Fed on policy matters and emerging issues. The first meeting of the advisory council takes place Nov. 20 in Washington, D.C. The council will meet twice a year and its members will receive a nominal honorarium and reimbursement for travel expenses. The Fed created the council in January and considered candidates with knowledge of economic development, small businesses, the concerns of low- and moderate-income consumers and affordable housing. Barragan has been with the VEDC, in Van Nuys, since 1995 and its chief executive since 1999. In that time he has grown it to become the largest nonprofit business development corporation in the greater Los Angeles area with five area locations and another in Oakland. It offers direct micro- and small-business loans as well as SBA loans.
