Orbital Expands Missile System Production

Orbital ATK Inc. has added two new production lines to its Northridge facility, the company announced Monday. The Dulles, Va.-based aerospace and defense contractor will now begin producing a missile warning system for aircraft and support equipment for weapons systems at the San Fernando Valley location. The work had previously been done at Orbital’s Clearwater, Fla. site. The new production lines in Northridge will produce the AAR-47 Missile Warning System, designed to protect helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from surface-to-air threats; and Common Munitions BIT Reprogramming Equipment used with weapon systems to upload and download flight software. Orbital also produces the Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile Warning System for the U.S. Navy at the Northridge plant. “We are committed to delivering systems with the highest quality and reliability to the warfighter while providing engineering and manufacturing synergies that ensure best value for our customers” said Cary Ralston, vice president and general manager of the Defense Electronic Systems division of Orbital ATK’s Defense Systems Group, in a prepared statement.
