Fitness Court Comes to Palmdale

Pelona Vista Park in Palmdale is home to a new community Fitness Court, with a launch party celebrating the addition on June 21. City officials and National Fitness Court representatives, as well as individuals from Antelope Valley Hospital, Kaiser Permanente and High Desert Medical Group came together for the opening event. “We’re proud that Palmdale is delivering a quality health-building amenity that is available free of charge to the entire community,” said Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer. “This wouldn’t be possible without the generous contributions of our partners who have stepped up to give our community yet another opportunity to get healthy, get outdoors, and have fun.” “Partnering with others to improve the health of the Antelope Valley is a vital part of AV Hospital’s mission,” added Ed Mirzabegian, Antelope Valley Hospital chief executive. “As a local health care leader, we take our role in helping people live healthier very seriously. By bringing our resources together with the city of Palmdale and other health-related partners, we are excited to be able to make a long-term investment in the health of our community.” A “Boots vs. Badges” fitness competition between the Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s departments highlighted the court’s capacity, with more than 30 pieces of exercise equipment allowing up to 28 people to use the court at the same time, city officials said. Exercise stations use the “Seven Movements in Seven Minutes” system, which includes a series of full-body exercises that can be completed in seven minutes. Community members can also download the Fitness Court app for free training videos and class schedules. The court was funded by Antelope Valley Hospital, The Kaiser Foundation, High Desert Medical Group and The Warnack Foundation, as well as from a fitness grant from Fit Radio. The court is free to use during regular park hours, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
