Jake Fire Erupts Briefly in Santa Clarita

A small brush fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in the hills of Santa Clarita before being stamped out by fire crews shortly thereafter. Dubbed the Jake Fire, the blaze burned seven acres of uphill brush near the 21500 block of Deputy Jake Drive, prompting evacuations from several nearby homes and Michael McGrath Elementary School. The Master’s University also canceled classes for the day under an evacuation order. Firefighters, with help from two water-dropping aircraft, drowned the fire about 2 p.m. Smoke from the fire could be seen from as far as the Warner Center in Woodland Hills. No injuries or structural damages were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.
