Lake Fire More Contained; Red Cross Closing Evac Center

The Lake Hughes Fire in northern Los Angeles County is 31 percent contained and has spread to more than 18,000 acres, according to the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Twenty-one structures have been destroyed and three have been damaged, the government entity reported. Assessments are still coming back from those in the field, pinpointing which properties have been affected. The fire is west of Lancaster. Meanwhile, the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region announced Monday it is closing its temporary evacuation point for residents affected by the lake fire — Highland High School in Palmdale. The organization said it is opting for virtual assistance instead and has teams on standby for in-person assistance at Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. Since the fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon, the Red Cross has helped 15 people, provided 25 hotel stays and served 70 meals and snacks, the organization said.
