Developer Plans Nine Units for Lake Balboa

Sophie Court will be the name of a housing development on a single-acre parcel at 17210 Roscoe Blvd. in Lake Balboa on the Northridge border. RC Homes Inc. intends to erect nine single-family dwellings in four- and five-bedroom models. According to the Glendale-based developer of boutique apartment complexes, each floorplan spans up to 2,429 square feet and features high-end flooring, countertops and technology. A city staff report to the Area Planning Commission recommended the project, which was previously dubbed Northridge 9. San Diego-area studio Summa Architecture is designing the contemporary homes, which will replace a single-family home at the site. Each of these contemporary homes will include a two-car garage. Other features include tankless water heaters and a drought-tolerant landscape. RC Homes has also designed like-minded developments such as Fairfax at Sunset in Hollywood and two complexes in Silver Lake. They are currently planning more ambitious multifamily communities for Signal Hill and Upland. Other recently announced developments for the Northridge area include a five-story, 51-unit development near California State University – Northridge on Reseda Boulevard and a project that includes 61 townhomes, also aimed for a Reseda Boulevard address, known as Mosaic.
