Galpin’s Long Streak as No. 1 Ford Dealer Ends

After 29 years of being the No. 1 Ford dealership in the world by volume, Galpin Ford has lost that title. The North Hills dealership fell short in retaining the title for a 30th year. Brandon Ford in Tampa, Fla., picked up that distinction with 7,114 new vehicles sold in 2019. Galpin came in third, with 5,704 new vehicles sold through Jan. 2. Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, Mich., came in second with 7,056 sales. The numbers were supplied by Brandon Ford. Attempts to reach a representative of Galpin Motors, the parent of Galpin Ford. were not successful. Tom Murray, marketing director for Brandon Ford, said the dealership attributes its 2019 success to its massive inventory, aggressive pricing and customer service. “We have a growing sales team of world-class individuals from diverse backgrounds, all of whom are very knowledgeable and motivated to earn the business of our customers,” Murray said in a statement. Last year, Galpin reported 8,128 new vehicle sales for 2018. Ford has a smaller market share in California – 8.7 percent – than its 13 percent average nationwide, according to the California New Car Dealers Association. The car company had 165,143 new car and light truck registrations in the state last year, a decrease of 6.3 percent from 2018, according to the association. The best-selling Ford models in California were the Mustang, with 8,857 registrations last year, the F-Series full size pickup with 50,152 registrations and the Transit Connect van with 18,947 registrations, according to the association.
