Realtors Foundation Gives Locally

The Conejo Simi Moorpark Association of Realtors has announced that its public benefit foundation gave $30,000 to local charities and high school students in 2019. The association’s giving campaign for the year started last spring, when it awarded 14 scholarships of $1,000 each to high school seniors. Then, during the winter holiday season, it gave more than 800 toys with a total value of about $8,000 to three participating charities: Manna Conejo Valley Food Bank in Thousand Oaks; St. Paschal Baylon Church’s men’s club, also in Thousand Oaks; and the Samaritan Center of Simi Valley. The association ended the year by presenting eight nonprofits with $1,000 grants. Included were: Many Mansions, an affordable housing developer in Thousand Oaks; The Moorpark Pantry, a food bank; the Manna food bank; the Samaritan Center; and Boys and Girls Clubs of Conejo Valley, Moorpark and Simi Valley. Money for these donations came from a series of events and fundraisers throughout the year. “Before anything else, realtors are members of our communities and they are committed to giving back to those communities,” said association 2019 President Liz Parvex in a statement. “Our realtors and affiliate members worked hard last year to raise funds for our Conejo Simi Moorpark Public Benefit Foundation. Through our 805 Wine and Brew Fest, bowl-a-thons, bingo games and the Realtor Expo, our members did a great job and we are extremely happy to have been able to make these contributions.” This year, the association plans to kick off its philanthropic efforts by awarding scholarships of $2,500 each to five high school students. The association has already sent out applications to 18 high schools in the Conejo Valley and will be accepting submissions through April 8. The organization, based in Thousand Oaks, provides governance and advocacy for local real estate professionals. It serves about 2,000 members. It also has offices in Simi Valley.
