Winds Damage Dome Structure in Burbank

Santa Ana winds caused damage during the Thanksgiving holiday to a new dome structure being built at the intersection of Hollywood Way and Empire Avenue in Burbank.

The winds knocked out some of the insulation paneling and left debris around the geodesic dome, but no injuries were reported.

The 28,664-square-foot facility, located near the Hollywood Burbank Airport, is being created by Madison Square Garden Entertainment on a property owned by Worthe Real Estate Group. The purpose of the hemispheric dome, on which construction began in June, is to serve as a production facility to develop media for a larger version of the structure in Las Vegas. The dome, which spans about 186 feet in diameter and 95 feet high, was expected to be completed by the end of next month.

MSG Entertainment recently signed a 126,000-square-foot lease at Media Studios at 2255 N. Ontario St. with owner Worthe Real Estate Group.

According to the National Weather Service, peak wind gusts reached 67 miles per hour in Burbank last Wednesday night.
