16 area gas stations now defy pump regulations

Only 16 of Ventura County’s 188 service station operators failed to meet Wednesday’s state-imposed deadline for starting to install mandatory but costly fueling system upgrades to reduce air pollution, a county official said. Some 86 station owners have completed the work and had their equipment successfully tested, while 81 others have all their permits, but have not completed the work for various reasons, said Mike Villegas, executive officer of the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District.
