Amgen, Dine Brands Gain After Reporting Quarterly Results

Shares of Amgen Inc. gained nearly 2 percent the day after the biotech reported third-quarter earnings. The Thousand Oaks company reported net income of $1.86 billion ($2.86 a share) on total revenue of $5.9 billion. That compares to net income of $2 billion on revenue of $5.77 billion for the same quarter a year ago. The company raised its revenue guidance for the year to a range between $23.2 billion and $23.5 billion. Shares of Amgen (AMGN) closed Wednesday up $3.71 cents, or 1.96 percent, to $192.79 on the Nasdaq. Dine Brands Global Inc. shares gained nearly 2 percent after the company reported 14-year record quarterly sales gains for its Applebee’s restaurant chain. The Glendale company reported net income of $23.6 million ($1.29 a share) on revenue of $194 million. That compares to a net loss of $450 million on revenue of $174 million a year ago. During the quarter, Applebee’s domestic same-restaurant sales increased 7.7 percent and IHOP, the company’s other restaurant chain, increased same-store sales 1.2 percent. The increase at Applebee’s represented a 14-year record for the chain, according to the company. Shares of Dine Brands (DIN) rose $1.40, or 1.76 percent, to close Wednesday at $81.04 on the New York Stock Exchange.
