Community Memorial Has a New CEO

Freshly rebranded Community Memorial Healthcare welcomed a new president and chief executive this month with the arrival of Mick Zdeblick.

Gary K. Wilde, the nonprofit’s former president and chief executive, has stepped down after nearly 20 years of service.

Zdeblick, his successor, had since 2017 served as the chief executive of Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon since 2017. He oversaw the hospital’s performance and protected its profitability during the Covid-19 pandemic. Zdeblick also led Asante’s $500 million facility renovation and expansion master plan.

“I look forward to building on Community Memorial’s reputation for advancing both the quality and delivery of health care in Ventura County,” Zdeblick said in a statement. “My first few months will involve a lot of listening, learning, and cultivating relationships internally and externally. Then we’ll create a strategic plan that addresses the needs of our organization and our community.”

Flanking his experience at Asante, Zdeblick also served as chief operating officer at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California, as well as vice president of campus transformation and vice president of hospital operations at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

“Mick comes to Community Memorial with a fantastic track record of success; he has the experience and vision to lead us into a successful future,” outgoing Community Memorial Board Chair Richard R. Rush said in a statement. “His leadership style, proven experience and innovative ideas will be assets as he takes on this role.”

Zdeblick’s addition came just a few weeks before the rebranding of Community Memorial Healthcare, formerly known as Community Memorial Health System.

The modernized brand includes a new logo and updated naming signage to the nonprofit’s two hospitals, health centers and foundation. The new logo, a layered wave, is a nod to Ventura County’s coastal location.

“The goal of this project was to unify Community Memorial’s hospitals, health centers, programs and services under a single, highly recognizable umbrella with consistent presence across the county,” said Jamie Maites, Community Memorial Healthcare’s vice president of marketing and development, said in a statement. “We wanted the look and feel of the brand to reflect our community and the high-quality care we deliver.”
