West Hills Hospital & Medical Center on Tuesday opened its Advanced Wound Care Center to treat patients with hard-to-heal wounds. The center offers therapies such as bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings, growth factor therapies along with other treatments that facilitate the healing process. “Chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the United States, and incidents are expected to rise at a rate of 2 percent annually in the next decade,” Dr. Brian Evans, medical director of the center, said in a statement. “This alarming statistic demonstrates the growing need for wound care centers like the state-of-the-art facility at West Hills Hospital.” Patients with wounds that have not begun to heal after four weeks or have not completed healing after six weeks are prime candidates for the center’s treatments. Patients can be admitted by doctor referral to the facility, which will be open Monday through Friday. West Hills Hospital & Medical Center, which is owned by HCA Holdings Inc. of Nashville, Tenn., has 450 doctors and more than 900 nurses and staff to serve the West Valley market.
