Economic Alliance Gala Puts on Hollywood Glitz

Economic Alliance Gala Puts on Hollywood Glitz By BRAD SMITH Staff Reporter It’s a Hollywood event unlike any you see in the Valley. Usually held on the backlot of one of the local studios, the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley’s Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony is one of the larger and more memorable events for Valley businesspeople who go to their share of events. The annual event, held in the summer has entertainment, a celebrity host as well as a serious side where organizations and people are honored for their service to the Valley. This year, Project Grad Los Angeles, which works to increase the number of LAUSD students graduating from high school and entering college, was honored as the “Star of the Valley in Education.” Also recognized for public service were City Controller Laura Chick and Dr. A. Richard Grossman, founder of the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks. The Alliance is made up of private and public investors organized to help sustain the economic base of the San Fernando Valley, including all or some of five cities Calabasas, Burbank, Glendale, Los Angeles and San Fernando. The organization partners with the Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA), the United Chambers of Commerce (UCC), the Valley Economic Development Center (VEDC), the Southland Regional Association of Realtors, the San Fernando Valley Conference & Visitor”s Bureau, the Valley International Trade Association (VITA), the Valley Leadership Institute (VLI), and the Small Manufacturers Association of California. “The Economic Alliance has played a unique role in the Valley to the point that while they are not an advocate, they are deeply involved in promoting the Valley,” said businessman Marvin Selter, who has served on the Alliance’s executive and advisory committees. The annual gala and awards ceremony is part of those efforts, Economic Alliance officials said.
