Small Businesses Seen Faltering

According to a just released report, small businesses in California grew at a meager 0.3 percent in the first half of 2005, a sharp reduction from last year’s 8.4 percent rate. The report, from SurePayroll, also noted that the average small business paycheck in the state decreased by 2.8 percent. “At this rate, California small business paychecks are on pace to decrease by 4.8 percent in 2005,” the report author’s concluded. That would still be a better performance than small businesses in California turned in last year when the average paycheck decreased 9.2 percent. SurePayroll is a national payroll service for small businesses.
