Leyner Receives Fernando Award

Businessman J. Richard Leyner received the 2005 Fernando Award on Friday, the Valley’s highest honor for volunteerism. The award was handed out at a banquet at the Warner Center Marriott attended by more than 350 people including several politicians such as L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, city councilpeople, county supervisors and Congressman Brad Sherman. Leyner has been involved with the Child Development Institute, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, AIDS Project Los Angeles, The Executives and the Encino Chamber of Commerce as well as serving on the advisory board of the San Fernando Valley Economic Research Center at Cal State Northridge. Four other finalists for the award, Jill Banks Barad, Dorothea Heitz, Dorothy Jean Jauck and Ed Rose, were also honored at the event. Leyner will be honored again on Feb. 24 at the annual Fernando Award recognition dinner.
