M & A; Uptick for Textiles, Apparel Noted

Merger and acquisition activity in the durables, textiles and apparel sectors increased by 14 percent over the last twelve months, according to a report just released by Mosaic Capital, a Sherman Oaks-based investment advisor. The sector registered 191 deals over the last 12 months ending June 30, compared with 168 deals in the same period last year. The most active categories were textile mills and products, which registered a 24 percent increase over the comparable period a year ago, and apparel, accessories and luxury goods, which saw a 23 percent boost. Increases were smallest in housewares and specialty products, which saw a 3 percent boost, the Mosaic Capital report said. “Large national and international strategic buyers lead the demand for U.S.-based businesses in this sector,” the report noted.
