Sport Chalet Earnings Down on Rent, Advertising Expenses

Sport Chalet reported its earnings decreased in the third quarter of fiscal 2006 due to the costs of expansion and advertising expenses. Sport Chalet reported net earnings of $3 million or $0.22 per share on revenues of $96.1 million for the period ending December 31, 2005. By comparison the company earned $3.7 million or $0.26 per share on revenues of $99.7 million for the like period last year. The company said its lower performance was due to the higher cost of rent for new stores opened during the period and to high advertising costs during the holiday, 2005 season. The La Canada-based operator of sporting goods stores expects to open a new store in Thousand Oaks in the spring.
