Re/Max Donates Sales to Charities

By Vanessa Herman Staff Reporter Over 11,000 real estate professionals from Re/Max in California and Hawaii held an Open House on the weekend of May 20 and 21 in order to donate proceeds of home sales to the Children’s Miracle Network, “Race for the Cure” and other local charities. Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization which raises funds and awareness programs for children and associated hospitals. “Race for the Cure” is a part of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, a private fund provider of breast cancer research and community outreach. Jeff Camp, Marketing Director for Re/Max of California and Hawaii said in a statement, “This event is about community we’re honored to be the driving force in bringing local neighborhoods across two states together to help generate funds for millions of families in their own communities, and across the United States.” Val Durrant, Director of Corporate Development for Children’s Miracle Network said in a statement, “We’re thrilled that Re/Max has chosen to help support and promote our organization not only is Re/Max helping us make miracles, they are demonstrating the core of premier community citizenship.” Countrywide Care Packages Countrywide Financial Corp., loan lender based in Calabasas, in honor of Military Appreciation Month, is working with the United Services Organizations to put together 5,000 “Care Packages” for U.S. military personnel abroad. An assembly line of 150 Countrywide employees and family members will put together these packages which will include telephone calling cards for troops to call home, disposable cameras, sunscreen, toiletries and playing cards. The program will be sponsored by Countrywide employees who are donating $25 to the project for each package sent. Countrywide will match every donation up to $5,000 per employee, doubling the number of packages sent. CREW L.A. Sponsors Tournament CREW L.A., an organization for female commercial real estate professionals, is holding its first all women’s golf tournament at the Braemer Country Club in Tarzana, June 26 for Sister to Sister: Everyone Has A Heart Foundation. Media Representative, Ingrid Grande of Berbay Corp. said, “Because (CREW L.A) is a woman’s organization, they decided to choose (Sister to Sister) because people are not aware that women at an early age are suffering from heart attacks.” Berbay said the event will raise funds and allow organization representatives to hand out information about heart disease and getting tested for early detection. Sister to Sister, founded in 2000, is a non-profit organization working towards raising awareness for Women’s Heart Disease. Sister to Sister offers free heart disease screenings and information about heart disease prevention. CREW L.A. is sponsored by Lexington Commercial Holdings, Inc., Grubb & Ellis, and Berbay Corp. The Los Angeles Chapter of CREW, which is one of 42 member organizations of the National Network, provides a professional forum for business development, industry expertise, networking and professional growth for its members and the community. The chapter is comprised of over 4,700 real estate professionals. Arena Hosts Event The Easy Street Arena, ice skating arena in Simi Valley, will host an event to gather pony tail donations for the Locks of Love Foundation June 10. The event will be sponsored by Tri County Youth Productions, the All Year Figure Skating Club, Marisa’s Hair, Lindy Z SkateWear, Ventura County Supervisor candidate Peter Foy, Marketing Software Company Inc., M’Lords and M’Ladies Salon, and Community Chiropractic in Woodland Hills. Radio station, K-Earth 101 FM will be broadcasting the event, which will offer free haircuts and ice skating admission to those donating 6-10 inches of hair. The event was inspired by local teen figure skater, Amalia Reina who was diagnosed with leukemia. Event organizer and figure skating teacher, Lexi Rohner said in a statement, “Amalia has been my student for 6 years when she received a wig it meant so much to her. It inspired me to do something more than hold her hand. I have been planning this since late 2005, and I am overwhelmed and very encouraged by the community’s response in support of this event, and in the number of pony tail pledges. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization which provides people with custom-made, vacuum fitted wigs made from donated hair. The wigs are designed for children who have total loss of scalp hair. The organization provides wigs to those who have a range of conditions from a non-curable autoimmune condition, alopecia areata to those who have had severe burns or radiation treatment.
