Budget crisis hits healthcare district

LANCASTER – The inability of Democratic and Republican legislators to resolve differences over the state’s budget is costing the Antelope Valley Healthcare District more than $1 million a week. Because of the lack of a budget plan for its 2008-09 fiscal year, the state stopped paying the district for its treatment of low-income patients enrolled in Medi-Cal, the California version of the federal Medicaid program.
